National Juvenile Championships -
Second Weekend
Ferrybank A.C. easily retained the cup
for Best Juvenile Club in Ireland following another successful
week-end at the National Juvenile Champiosnhips.
The club won 10 gold, 6 silver
and 3 bronze medals to add to their huge haul from the opening
week-end a fortnight earlier.
mairead Murphy ended her season in fine
style with gold medal performances in the under 19 long jump and
200m. In the 200m she led a clean sweep for the club with Kalyn
Sheehan and Mairead Deevy taking silver and bronze medals. Niall
Tuohy and Gavin Downey took gold and silver in the boys under 19
1500m and Shane Quinn took gold in the under 16 1500m. Patricia
Barry had a clear win in the girls under 19 1500m. Lorraine McCarthy
under 18 and Kitty Walsh under 16 both won suilver medals in their
1500m events. Jade Power added the discus gold medal under 14
to the shot putt gold she won a fortnight ago. Billy Ryan took
second place in the under 18 200m and Sinead Donnelly took bronze in
the under 18 long jump.
In the realy events the club won four
titles - under 18 girlas 4 X 100m, under 19 girls 4 x 100M & 4 x
400m and under 19 boys 4 X 400m. Silver medals were won by the under
18 boys 4 X 400m and bronze by the under 14 girls 4 X 100m and under
18 boys 4 X 100m.
Eight of the clubs athletes have been
selected on the Irish team for the Celtic International to be held
in northern Ireland on August 5th - Billy Ryan, Alan Corcoran, Naimh
Whelan, Christopher Russell, Shane Quinn, Lorraine McCarthy, Cara
Kennedy and Theo Wallace.
