Ferrybank A.C. have huge medal haul at
National Juvenile Championships
After the opening weekend of the
National Juvenile Championships, Ferrybank A.C. look set to easily
retain the cup for Best Juvenile Track & Field Club in Ireland
following their haul of 15 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze
medals.
European Championship bound Mairead
Murphy, Niamh Whelan, Jessie Barr and Christopher Russell all
produced gold medal performances. Mairead Murphy took gold in the
under 19 100m & 100m hurdles, Niamh Whelan took gold in the
under 18 100m & 300m, Jessie Barr took gold in her speciality
the 400m hurdles and Christopher Russell did likewise in the under
18 100m. Ciara Giles Doran took double gold in the under 13 hurdles
and long jump and finished third in the under 13 80m. Shot putt gold
medals were won by Jade Power under 14 and cara Kennedy under 16.
Ann O Shea won gold in the under 13 80m and Theo Wallace won his
first Irish title in the under 16 high jump. Mairead Deevy was an
easy winner off the under 19 400m as was Alan Corcoran in the under
18 400m hurdles. Patricia Barry repeated her success form 2006
winning gold in the 3000m under 19.
Silver medals were won by Dayle Kennedy
in the under 18 shot and discus, Nicola Power in the under 17 long
jump, Andrew Heffernan under 16 high jump, Hayley Murphy under 19
100m, Megan Kiely under 14 hurdles, Sinead Donnelly under 18 triple
jump, Billy Ryan under 18 400m, Ann O Shea under 13 long jump and
Conor Dooney in the under 19 3000m.
Bronze medals were won by Nicola Power
under 17 hurdles, Shne Kennedy javelin, Gavin Kennedy under 18 400m
hurdles, Lorraine McCarthy under 18 800m and Ciara Giles Doran under
13 80m.
The championships conclude on July 28th
& 29th with the raining individual events along with the
relays.
