Athletes from ferrybank ac won five individual and one relay
title in Tullamore on Sunday last at the All Ireland Junior
Championships. The winners were as follows: Mairead Murphy, 100
Metres Hurdles; Mairead Deevy 400 Metres; Kelly Propery, Long Jump;
Niall Tuohy, 800 Metres and Jessie Barr 400 Metres Hurdles an the
Girls Relay Squad 4 x 100 Metres. Silver medals went to Christopher
Russell 100 and 200M; Niamh Whelan 100 and 200M; Patricia Barry
3000M; Billy Ryan 400M; Sinead Donnelly, Triple Jump; Gavin Kennedy
400M Hurdles; Kalyn Sheehan, 400M Hurdles; and Sinead Donnelly was
third in the Long Jump. Three in Belgium Three young Waterford
athletes ran in a meeting in Brussels on Saturday last, two from
Ferrybank AC and one from West Waterford. The two Ferrybank AC
athletes were seeking qualifying times for the European Junior
Championships in Hergelo, Holland in mid July and one of them,
Mairead Murphy, achieved the time in the 100 metres Hurdles with
14.14 seconds, the mark being 14.20. The second Niall Tuohy, made a
brave effect in the 800 metres being timed at 1 minute s51.58
seconds, marginally outside the qualifier.
