The last major
outdoor competition of 2004 for Ferrybank Athletic Club took place
in Birmingham last weekend. A team of 7 athletes from the most
successful club in Ireland competed in the under 15 and under 17
individual events in what is a truly world class standard
competition.
Kalyn Sheehan
was favourite to win the under 15 75m hurdles and was the fastest
qualifier in both the opening rounds and the semi final but a slow
start meant she left too much to do and although closing fast, just
ran out of track and finished a marvellous second. She also finished
4th in the long jump.
Mary O Connor
was 4th in the 800 meters which was red hot and had an
original entry of 60 before being whittled down to the final 8 so
another great run for the half miler.
Jessie
Barr was 7th in the high jump and 7th in the
300m hurdles and competes in the under 17 age group again next year.
Dayle Kennedy was below his best in the shot and discus under 15.
Grainne Quinn was 10th in the 1500 meters, getting
through a heat in a personal best time. Kevin Cooper was just a
second outside qualifying for the final of the 1500m. Kelly Proper
finished 7th in the final of the long jump, just 10 cm
off a medal.
