4 British AAA's medals for Farrybank
A.C.
12 athletes from Ferrybank A.C. along
with coaches and parents travelled to the National Indoor Arena in
Brimingham last week-end for the British AAA's Indoor under 15, 17
& 20 championships. The week-end proved to be another most
sucessful trip for the club and they returned home with a silver and
three bronze medals.
The star of the first days action was
under 17 sprinter niamh Whelan who took almost 1 second off her 200m
lifetime best time winning the bronze medal in a classy
24.80seconds. This race was one of the fastest ever seen for this
age group with the gold and silver medalist placing 5th & 8th
and the British all time best list.
On day two Ciaran Donnelly produced a
lifetime best to snatch bronze in the boys under 15 60m hurdles and
took fourth place in both the high and long jumps producing another
lifetime best in the long jump. Kelly Proper had run up
problems which slightly hindered her performance but battled well to
take another bronze medal in the under 20 long jump with a leap of
5.84m. The finest performance of the week-end came in the very last
event when Mairead Deevy produced the best race of her career when
she stormed to the silver medal in the under 20 400m with a huge
personal best time of 56.97 seconds. Concluding a great
week-end Mairead murphy was unlucky not to take another medal when
she finished in 4th position in the under 20 60m
hurdles.
