UK Long Jump title for Kelly
Once again we lead off this week recording another major victory by the athlete of the moment Kelly Proper Ferrybank. Currently she is in terrific form and in Sheffield on Sunday last she had another fine effort in winning the UK Long Jump title with a fine leap of 6.48 metre not too far away from her best mark. She was well clear of the second competitor Amy Woodman Birchfield Hrs who jumped 6.20 metres. Last week was a very special one for Kelly as she was selected on the Irish team for the World Indoor championships in Qatar in March and she was Chosen as Crowne Plaza Athlete of the Month In Ireland for January. Also in Sheffield last week end Niamh Whelan had a very successful time as she took part in two events the 60 metres and the 200 metres. and made both finals. In the 200 metres final on Sunday she had a personal best time of 23. 86 seconds and collected the bronze medal in the final, the race was won in 23.48 by Joyce Maduaka, Woodword, Green, on Saturday in the 60 Metres final she posted a time of 7.52 seconds to finish fifth, the race was on in 7.29 seconds again by Maduaka.

Huge entry in Dunhill Race
On Saturday last in excellent conditions a record entry of close on 400 runners plus lots of walkers took part in the 4th Annual Anne Valley 5 miles road race in Dunhill with the proceeds going to the Jack and Jill Foundation After a very close race between two runners who broke from the field early on Paddy Flynn, Ferrybank and Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir it was Flynn who finished the strongest to win in a time of 26 minutes and 34 seconds, in second place timed at 26.57 was Murphy and Paddy Hogan Ferrybank was third in 27.32. First Junior was Gary Cantwell K.C.K., O40 Jim Baldwin Waterford, O45 Patrick Kennedy Slaney, O50 Joe Gough West Waterford, O60 Tom O'Brien Waterford. The Ladies section was won by Corina Walsh, West Waterford in 31.54, Niamh Murphy was second in 32.22 and Mary Dempsey St Finbarr's was third in 32.24. First Junior Grainne Brennan Ferrybank, o 35 Niamh Fitzgerald, 0 40 Diane Behan Waterford, O45 Clare Fowler, Waterford.The organisers had lots of stewards all round the course and the Gardai were very much involved also as were a number of voluntary bodies and as usual Jim Harney and family and their premises were very much involved in many ways also with Jim Harney the official starter, services also rendered by Peter Molloy Catering at Harney's. Scottish Under Age Championships
On Saturday and Sunday last the Scottish Juvenile Indoor Championships were held in Glasgow and a large number of athletes from Ferrybank competed there and on Sunday they had three winners.The three were Nicola Power in the u 20 Long Jump with a personal best jump of 5.76 metres, Megan Kiely In the u 17 300 metres and Ciara Giles Doran in the u 17 200 metres. Silver medals were won by Sorcha Murphy u 17 High jump and April Flynn 300 metres in the same age group. There were also bronze medals won by Megan Kiely, 60 m Hurdles, Ciara Giles Doran, Long jump, Anne O'Shea, 60 metres all u 17 and Thomas Barr u 20 400 metres. In the lower age group on Saturday Aisling Quinn was second the 1500 metres u 15, Kate Daniels was third in the Shot Putt u 15 and the boys u 13 team also collected bronze medals and the squad was; Comac Mc Cann, Dylan Kearns, Tadg Brennan and Frankie Dolphin.
