Kelly Proper wins AAA's British Junior
Combined Events
Kelly Proper, Ferrybank A.C. produced
one of the finest performances of her career to date when she won
the British AAA Indoor Combined Events under 20 held at
sheffield last weekend.
Kelly led from the first event when she
won the 60mhurdles setting a lifetime best of 8.99s. A solid high
jump of 1.66m , just below her best ever saw her extend her lead
after the second event. Kelly produced another best ever throw of
9.70m in the third event the shot putt. Her speciality event , the
long jump sealed the competition where she outclassed all the other
competitiors with a leap of 5.76m to extend her lead and
give her a comfortable lead going in to the final event
the 800m. A time of 2mins 32.14seconds secured the gold medal
for the ferrybank athlete ahead of English Internationals Emily
Wheatman and Megan Beasley. Kellys final points total of 3666points
was a lifetime best score by a considerable margin and the second
best ever by an Irish junior athlete.
This victory follows on
from Kellys clubmate Kalyn Sheehans win in the under 17
event the previous weekend and starts the season in
the best possible way for the Ferrybank
club
