Ferrybank Athletic Club made the long
journey to Sligo last weekend for the first of the National Juvenile
Cross Country Championships. The trip was a fruitful one with the
club coming home with 2 individual winners, 2 individual 3rd
placings, 2 team firsts and 2 team seconds.
The girls under 11 team (Ann O'Shea,
Ciara Giles Doran, Emer Cronin, Autumn Coady, Promise
Owoeye, Heather O'Leary ) took silver
medals.
In the girls under 15, Ciara Cronin
once again produced a classy performance to win in a most
comprehensive manner. With four athletes in the top 12, the club had
an easy team victory. The team was made up of Ciara Cronin, Beth
Walsh, Kitty Walsh, Jane Halley, Sophie Molloy and Elana
Forristal.
In the boys under 15 race, Shane Quinn
& John Francis both produced fine performances to finish 3rd and
4th respectively.
The girls under 17 team led home by
Niamh Ryan in 3rd place, packed well to finish in 2nd place behind
Dundrum South Dublin. The team was Niamh Ryan, Grainne Quinn,
Grainne Brennan, Mary O'Connor, Karen English & Tara
Quinn.
In the boys under 17 race, Niall Tuohy
produces one of the most impressive performances of the day to win
comprehensively. Conor Dooney in 4th, Kevin Cooper 8th and Gavin
Downey 15th, assisted by Ferdia O'hAodha, David Molloy and Patrick
Flynn took the team title with ease.
The club now looks forward to a trip to
Athlone in 2 weeks time.
