Scottish Indoor Championships U-13 & U-15, Sunday 3rd February 2002
A group of 36 athletes, coaches and supporters from Ferrybank Athletic Club travelled to the Kelvin
Hall in Glasgow for the Scottish Under 13 and Under 15 Championships on Saturday February 2nd 2002.
It proved to be a highly successful and enjoyable occasion yielding 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals
among with several other finalists and many life time best performances. For most of the athletes, this was
their first experience of international competition.
Kalyn Sheehan was our star performer of the Championships, finishing 1st in the girls u13 hurdles with a PB of
9.89 sec., 1st in the long jump with 4.30m and 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.35m, again a PB. Kalyn was
one of only a handful of double gold medalists at these Championships.
Eoin Beglin ran brilliantly to secure the bronze medal in the boys u15 hurdles and also reached the semi-final of
both the 60m and 200m.
Kelly Proper secured the silver medal in the high jump u15 with a PB of 1.55m. She also finished 4th in the long
jump and 7th in the shot.
Holly Deegan had a marvellous day winning the silver medal in the girls u15 long jump with a life time best of 4.86m
after earlier improving on her high jump best by 10cm with a jump of 1.50m to finish just outside the medals.
Gavin Kennedy had his best day ever to date winning the silver medal in the boys u13 long jump with a
marvellous final effort of 4.10m, having earlier finished in 4th position in the hurdles and also jumping well in
the high jump.
Other finalists for the club were Sinead Donnelly, 4th u13 high jump & 5th in the hurdles, Mairead Murphy 6th
girls u15 shot and high jump, Laura Dwyer 6th Shot u13, Billy Ryan 5th u13 hurdles and Gillian Rohan finalist in the
high jump and long jump u15.
Others to compete well and gain valuable experience were Holly Kavanagh, Haley Murphy, Jessie Barr, Martha Dalton,
Michelle Mc Carthy, Jane Cunningham and Mairead Deevy.
With a total of 7 medals, Ferrybank A.C. were the leading Irish Club at the Championships.
