National Track & Field Championships, 14th, 15th, 28th ,29th July 2001

Day1

The under 11&12 National Championships were held on July 14th 2001 at Tullamore and were extremely successful for Ferrybank Athletic Club.

Mairead Murphy had a glorious day winning gold in the under 12 high jump, long jump and shot putt, securing personal bests in all three events.

Sinead Donnelly increased her personal best by a huge 22cm to win gold in the firls under 11 high jump.

Kayln Sheehan took silver in the girls under 12 hurdles losing out on the gold by an agonising 1 hundreth of a second.
She later finished in fifth place in the long jump.

Michelle Mc Carthy took bronze in the under 12 shot and finished an unlucky 4th in the hurdles.

Billy Ryan reached the final of the sprint where he finished 7th overall.

Holly Kavanagh reached the final of the ball throw under 12.


Day 2

The National Relays were held at Tullamore on Sunday 15th July and the under twelve team of Kayln Sheehan, Mairead Murphy, Hayley Murphy and Holly Kavanagh took silver medals in the 4 x 100m.

The under 13 team of Kelly Proper, Holly Deegan, Kayln Sheehan and Mairead Murphy reached the final and finished fifth overall.


Days 3 & 4

The National Championships for the under 13 to under 18's were held in Tullamore on the 28th and 29th July and again proved to be great days for the club.

Sonia Kennedy had a great weekend taking gold in the girls under 15 shot and discus.

Dara Foley jumped well in the under 15 high jump to win the bronze medal.

Kelly Proper had a very good weekend also in winning two silver medals in teh under 13 high jump and long jump.

Gilliam Rohan jumped very well and achieved a new personal best in winning the bronze medal in the under 13 high jump. Gillian also finished 5th in the hurdles final.

Eoin Beglin ran very well to reach the boys under 13 hurdles final and finished 5th overall.
