New
Irish record for Kelly Proper
On Saturday last at an International Indoor Meeting in Vienna
there was yet another outstanding performance by Kelly Proper of Ferrybank A.C. Competing in her favourite event the Long
Jump she once again showed her great competitive spirit to not alone win the
competition but also to break her own Irish Record with a magnificent leap of
6.62 metres which is inside the qualifying mark for the World Indoor
Championships in Qatar in March, that mark being 6.60 metres. So early in the
season it was a brilliant effort and augurs well for the season ahead.
Kelly's old Irish Indoor
record was 6.51 metres and of course she also holds the outdoor one at 6.59
metres so her jump on Saturday was her best ever official effort indoors or
outdoors.. In addition to her record jump on Saturday
she also had a mark of 6.55 metres and another of 6.47. At the same meeting
Niamh Whelan competed in the 60 metres and in winning her heat recorded a time
of 7.81 seconds and made it through to the final.
In the final she improved her
time to 7.65 seconds to finish second overall and another very solid
performance and again she too has an excellent competitive spirit, the race was
won in 7.63 seconds by Krista Komizar from

In Nenagh on Saturday last at the All
Ireland Senior Indoor Relay Championships female athletes from Ferrybank A.C. had excellent results. They won the 4x400
metres, 2x Hurdle, 2x High jump, 2x Long Jump and 2x Triple Jump titles and
finished second in the 4x 400 metres and third in the 2x Shot Putt. In many of
the events the entries were quite small it appears that many clubs give the championships
a miss each year which is a pity as the relays give competition to athletes of
every standard.
